Best San Diego Fish Tacos

This week, we’re continuing our fish taco recommendations with our list of the best San Diego fish tacos! Last time, we discussed the best Coronado fish tacos. If you haven’t already read it, you can find it here. If you’re venturing off Coronado Island, we recommend one of these (or all three!) restaurants for your San Diego fish taco fix!

Mitch’s Seafood

Mitch’s Seafood is dedicated to local food. They focus on simply prepared California style seafood. The owners of Mitch’s–or fishermen they know personally–catch most of the fish you’ll find here. Because they’re fishermen themselves, the owners of Mitch’s use only sustainably caught seafood on their menu.

You can order three different types of fish tacos here. All types of taco are served on corn tortillas with lime crema, shredded cabbage, and salsa fresca.

  • Grilled local fish
    • Because everything is caught fresh, the type of fish varies day-to-day
  • Wild shrimp
  • Beer battered Alaskan cod

Blue Water Seafood Market and Grill

If you’re looking for a variety of options when you order your fish tacos, Blue Water will deliver! They offer several different types of grilled fish for you to choose from for your meal.

As with Mitch’s, Blue Water is dedicated to keeping their food fresh & local. Each day, they start with the freshest fish they can find and expertly prepare it to bring out the best flavor.

The fish tacos are served on warm corn tortillas with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, cheddar cheese, Blue Water’s homemade white sauce, and your choice of chipotle-marinated fish. Choose from:

  • Red snapper
  • Yellowtail
  • Calamari
  • Seared ahi
  • Jumbo scallops
  • Scottish salmon
  • Hawaiian albacore
  • Mahi Mahi
  • Swordfish
  • Grilled shrimp
  • Hawaiian wahoo
  • Jumbo shrimp

¡SALUD!

¡SALUD! is a pure celebration of southern California. This Mexican food eatery calls San Diego’s historic Barrio Logan home, and everything from the decor to the food is inviting. While ¡SALUD! has now expanded to other locations, it’s the Barrio Logan location–just minutes away from Chicano Park–that started it all. The menu pays homage to the traditional street food of Northern Mexico, but still has its own unique flair.

The San Diego fish tacos here have been featured in the Washington Post, The New York Times, and on the Travel Channel! With this many awards, you know the tacos will be delicious. Here, your options are:

  • Shrimp
    • Shrimp on a handmade flour tortilla. Topped with special house sauce
  • Fish
    • Beer battered catfish served on a handmade tortilla with mixed cabbage, cojita, pico de gallo, and special house sauce

Have you tried the San Diego fish tacos at any of these restaurants?
